Art Cares San Diego was founded by local artist, musician and Art educator Patrick Coleman. 

Patrick has been an artist and musician throughout his 57 years on this planet. 

Starting as a child and following his passion ultimately to New York City to attend Parsons School of design at the New School for Social Research. 

Patrick worked as a professional screen printing studio artist and was also signed on Capitol Records as a professional drummer.

After graduating with honors from Parsons / The New School, Patrick began working in the film industry

while also continuing  to play music professionally.    

​

In the early 90's Patrick, looking for a change of scenery and new opportunities moved to  San Diego. 

Once in San Diego, Patrick founded Pacific Beach Grafix.  PB Grafix was a full service graphics design and printing studio.  While building PB Grafix into one of the top graphics and printing studios in San Diego,

Patrick discovered that he could teach his craft through the Regional Occupation Program. 

Shortly thereafter Patrick began his teaching career at Mira Mesa High School where he taught graphics and screen printing.  That was 1998.

For the past 26 years Patrick has taught fine arts classes in multiple high schools in San Diego County.   In 2014 Patrick accepted a teaching position at Del Norte High School, and shortly thereafter became the Department Chair for the Arts and Electives Programs. 

Patrick was nominated for Teacher of the Year 2024-25.

in 2015 Patrick became the AP Studio Art teacher at Del Norte and has since guided hundreds of students to great success, earning above national average scores each year, while also guiding student artists to gain acceptance to the top Art schools in the world:  Rhode Island School of Design, Parsons NY, School of Arts Institute Chicago, Carnagie Mellon, BYU School of Arts, USC School of Design to name a few.

Wanting to organize and lead others to help promote the arts while also giving back to the community Patrick founded Art Cares San Diego.
